Folklife section collection, 1977.

Recording of both sacred and secular song performed by Roosevelt May (1915-1978), African American vocalist and harmonica player from Halifax County, N.C., who sang and accompanied himself on the harmonica, using the instrument as a rhythmic "second voice". There are a few songs which are purely instrumental, including "Flat Foot Susie", and "Ruby". Of special interest is "Foxchase", a showpiece of instrumental vocal mimicry, evoking the sounds of a hunt.
